15 California Beaches That Show the Coast’s Many Sides
McWay Cove | Big Sur

The waterfall at McWay Cove makes a small, bright line against the large shapes of cliff, sand and sea. This protected view should not be confused with a swimming beach: California State Parks prohibits beach and ocean access here. The park’s trail page also lists the waterfall overlook as closed for repairs into 2026; check official notices before planning a stop.
