Eight Table Lamps That Became Design Icons
Gatto Piccolo

Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni · 1960
Gatto’s soft appearance begins with a surprisingly industrial technique. In the Castiglioni brothers’ 1960 design, a steel framework is sprayed with a cocoon-like resin that becomes the diffuser. Light passes through the pale skin rather than escaping from an exposed bulb, turning the smaller Piccolo table version into a gently glowing, almost weightless form.
