Inside Calgary’s Library Built Around a Working Train Line
A Public Building With More Than One Front

Approaching through the surrounding streets, the library does not present a sealed institutional wall. Its curved outline and changing window pattern make it readable from different directions, an important gesture for a building positioned between Downtown and East Village. The exterior is visually ambitious without relying on an isolated monument or ceremonial forecourt. Here, existing brick buildings give the new facade a useful scale comparison: the library feels distinctly contemporary, yet remains part of a walkable urban sequence rather than a destination cut off from it.
