Inside Calgary’s Library Built Around a Working Train Line
Reading Along the Window Wall

Between the outer skin and the interior stacks, seating becomes part of the building’s edge. The irregular windows cast a changing geometry across areas where people can sit, talk or read, giving a large institution smaller pockets of occupation. This is not the hushed, uniform image of a traditional reading hall. Different heights, furniture and sightlines allow several ways of spending time together. The photograph makes that variety visible: architecture supplies a framework, but the room gains its real character from the people choosing how to use it.
