Inside Calgary’s Library Built Around a Working Train Line
Following the Light Upward

The stair offers one of the building’s clearest visual stories: warm wood below, open space around it, and daylight drawing the eye upward. Rather than treating vertical circulation as a service tucked behind a door, the library makes the journey between levels visible and inviting. The changing curves frame successive views across the atrium. In a photograph, those edges can look almost sculptural; in use, their purpose is practical, making the next destination feel approachable and keeping visitors connected to the life of the building.
