Kitchen Objects That Became Design Classics
9090 Espresso Coffee Maker

Richard Sapper · 1978 design; 1979 production
Richard Sapper approached Alessi’s first espresso coffee maker as a problem to solve, not simply a shape to restyle. Designed in 1978 and produced from 1979, the 9090 combines a broad base, controlled pouring spout and lever-operated closure. Its sharply defined stainless-steel profile makes the mechanism part of the attraction, turning a working coffee pot into compact engineering.
