Olympic Posters That Captured the Spirit of Their Time

Olle Hjortzberg presents the Games as a procession of nations, with a leading athlete and a rush of coloured flags carrying the eye across the sheet. The dense drawing and decorative lettering belong to a different visual world from today's minimal sports branding. Selected through an artistic competition, it became the widely distributed official poster for Stockholm 1912. In the German-language example shown here, the international promise is visible in both the imagery and the translation of the announcement itself.
