Trash Becomes Wildlife in Bordalo II’s Giant Animal Sculptures
A squirrel on a city wall, a pelican on a rusting ship, a panda beside a tram: Bordalo II gives discarded materials an unexpected second life. These ten animal sculptures move between convincing natural textures and boldly exposed fragments, turning a familiar wildlife silhouette into a much less comfortable portrait of what we throw away.
Red Squirrel

Dublin, Ireland, 2017
A squirrel appears to climb directly out of an urban wall, its curled tail and alert face readable from across the street. Move closer and the surface becomes a dense assembly of fragments rather than fur. The surrounding signs, pedestrians and traffic lights give a sense of scale, making this familiar small animal feel suddenly monumental.
