Nine Extraordinary Wildlife Journeys Around the World
Straw-Colored Fruit Bats | Zambia

At Kasanka, the day’s most dramatic change happens around dusk. Straw-colored fruit bats leave their roosting trees and spread across the sky to feed, turning a small Zambian forest into a place of immense movement. The seasonal gathering is concentrated around the early rains, usually from late October into December. Use the park’s viewing arrangements rather than approaching roosts, where resting animals need space.
When to look: Late October–December.
