Personal Computers That Made the Future Fit on a Desk
Osborne 1 | 1981

The Osborne 1 made portability a matter of gathering the office into one carrying case, not slipping a computer into a pocket. A five-inch screen sat between two floppy drives, while the keyboard closed across the front for transport. At around 24 pounds, it was a machine to carry between desks rather than use casually on a lap. Its bundled productivity software was central to the appeal. The design captured an early version of mobile work: wherever there was power and a surface, a compact self-contained workspace could unfold.
