Volcanic Landscapes Beyond Earth
Overlapping Lava Flows at Sapas Mons | Venus

Sapas Mons spreads across the equatorial highlands of Atla Regio. Its flanks are covered in overlapping flows, many apparently released from vents on the sides rather than only from the summit.
The golden palette is assigned colour, not the appearance a person would see. Radar brightness helps reveal differences in surface texture: smoother flows can appear dark while rougher terrain reflects more strongly. Near the top of the volcano, pits and flat-topped features add another layer to the story of magma moving below and across the surface.
