Eight Table Lamps That Became Design Icons
Good lighting changes a room, but some lamps also change how we think about everyday objects. From counterbalanced desk lights to glowing resin and carefully layered shades, these eight table lamps approach the same task in very different ways. Look closer at the designers, mechanisms and silhouettes that give each one its lasting identity.
Taccia

Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni · 1962
Taccia reverses the usual relationship between a lamp and its shade. Designed in 1962 by Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni, it directs light toward an aluminium reflector held inside a clear glass bowl. The grooved base gives the composition a strong visual anchor, while the adjustable diffuser allows this apparently sculptural object to work with the room.
