Japanese Gardens Where Every View Is Designed
Korakuen | Okayama
At Okayama’s Korakuen, the garden makes room for openness. Broad stretches of lawn give the eye a pause between water, trees and built structures, so a small change in level can feel surprisingly significant. Created for a local daimyo roughly three centuries ago, it belongs to Japan’s celebrated trio of great gardens. Rather than filling every corner, its composition makes the intervals between features part of the experience.
