Volcanic Landscapes Beyond Earth
Elysium’s Volcanic Neighbours | Mars

Elysium Mons occupies the centre of a volcanic region that also includes Hecates Tholus to the north and Albor Tholus to the south. Their different shapes and the fractures around them reveal a complex landscape, not an isolated mountain.
This Viking composite combines finer black-and-white observations with lower-resolution colour data. It offers a regional perspective on one of Mars’ major volcanic provinces, while retaining the differences between individual volcanoes and the plains onto which material once spread. North is towards the top of the image.
