Ten Webb Images That Changed How We See the Universe
The Cosmic Cliffs | Carina Nebula

These apparent mountain peaks are the illuminated edge of a vast cavity in NGC 3324, a star-forming region in the Carina Nebula. Radiation and winds from hot young stars have shaped the billowing wall of gas and dust.
Webb’s near-infrared camera reveals young stars that were difficult to see through the dust. The resemblance to a terrestrial landscape is irresistible, but the scene is a stellar nursery around 7,600 light-years away, not a solid surface.
